Glossary
Software for every universe, in plain English.
Definitions of the terms you'll hear when choosing an operating system for your business, your family, your community or yourself.
- Bring your own provider (BYOP)
- Connecting your own accounts with third-party providers — like a VoIP carrier or email service — to a platform, and paying those providers directly.
- Business operating system (Business OS)
- A single cloud-based platform that combines the core applications a business runs on — CRM, communication, documents, SI, analytics and billing — on one shared foundation.
- Cloud-based software
- Software that runs on the provider's infrastructure and is used through a browser or app, with nothing to install or host.
- Community operating system
- One platform a community runs on — member directory, group texts, gatherings, dues and donations, and shared knowledge — under the community's own name.
- Device access control
- Rules that decide which people — and which SI members — can see or use each connected device.
- Document vault
- Secure storage for important documents — IDs, insurance, contracts, school forms — shared only with the people who need them.
- Exec2Exec
- KamoUniverse's direct chat channel between a customer's executive team and KamoUniverse's executive team.
- Family operating system (family OS)
- A private, cloud-based place where a family keeps its chat, calls, documents, reminders and devices together, with the right access for each person.
- Group texting
- Sending one text message to many people at once, with replies coming back to you individually.
- IoT device management
- Bringing an organization's connected devices — locks, lights, sensors, thermostats and equipment — into one place and deciding who can use each one.
- Lead distribution
- Automatically routing incoming leads to the right person using rules, rotation, territory or availability.
- Member management
- Keeping track of the people in a community — members, families, roles, dues and communication history — in one directory.
- Microservices
- An architecture that splits software into many small, independent services.
- Multi-tenant
- An architecture where one platform serves many separate organizations, each with its own isolated workspace.
- NVR (network video recorder)
- A recorder that stores video from a building's IP cameras; a DVR does the same for analog cameras. Each camera is one of its channels.
- Online giving
- Receiving donations, dues and fees online, usually through a payment processor.
- Personal operating system (life OS)
- A personal platform for your documents, notes, contacts, calls and devices, often with an SI assistant that handles admin for you.
- Provider agnostic
- Software that works with many service providers in a category instead of locking you into one.
- Reseller model
- A distribution model where a third party licenses software and sells it to end customers under its own terms and pricing.
- Second brain
- A trusted place outside your head where you keep notes, documents and ideas so you can find them again when you need them.
- SI employee
- A common term for SI that performs job tasks autonomously — answering calls, following up with leads or preparing documents.
- SI member
- An SI that is a member of your organization, with the same abilities as a human member — calls, email, texts and access to every app.
- SI personal assistant
- An SI that handles personal admin for you — calls, email, bookings and reminders.
- Smart home
- A home whose devices — locks, lights, thermostats, plugs and sensors — can be controlled remotely or automatically.
- Speed-to-lead
- The time between a lead reaching out and your first response.
- Universal operating system
- One cloud platform that can run any kind of organization — a business, a family, a community or one person — with the same apps, members and permissions.
- Usage markup
- An extra charge added on top of the underlying cost of calls, texts or emails sent through a platform.
- Virtual desktop
- A computer that runs in the cloud and is accessed remotely.
- VoIP
- Voice over Internet Protocol — phone calls carried over the internet instead of traditional phone lines.
- White label
- Software that can be rebranded so it appears to be your own — your domain, logo and colors instead of the vendor's.
