Ways to Organize Your Mailbox
Mail's UI has vocabulary for three different ways to organize your inbox. They sound similar but only one of the three is something you can actually set up from the app today.
Labels — real, works today
A tag you apply to a message (independent of which folder it's in), created on the fly from the label picker. Right-click a message (or press l) → Label → pick an existing label or Create new label. See How to Organize Your Inbox with Folders and Labels
Smart Folders — read-only in the UI
The sidebar has a Smart Folders section that lists any smart folders that already exist and lets you open one. But there is no button anywhere in the product to create one — the create/edit dialog component exists in the codebase but isn't wired into any screen you can reach. Unless your organization already has smart folders from some other source, you won't see this section at all, and there's currently no self-serve way to add one.
Filter Rules (auto-organize incoming mail) — not reachable at all
The idea (seen in the underlying code, never in the app) is rules like "if from X, apply label Y and mark as read." There is no menu, button, or settings screen anywhere in the current build that opens this — the component exists but nothing in the app ever renders it. If you're looking for automatic inbox rules, they aren't available yet.
