Accounts

An account is an established customer — a company or a person you already do business with. Where a lead is a possibility, an account is a relationship, and the record is built to hold everything about it in one place.

Start here

What an Account Record Holds walks through the eight tabs on an account and explains what actually lives on each one. It also explains a genuine oddity: the Accounts screen sits behind a menu entry that looks like it belongs to HR. It isn't an HR screen; the menu entry was reused.

Everyday work

  • How to Create an Account and How to Edit an Account's Details
  • How to Browse and Search Accounts — finding one among many
  • How to Manage the People on an Account — who your contacts are inside the customer
  • How to View an Account's Leads, Quotes and Orders — the commercial history
  • How to View an Account's Notes and History — what's been said and what's changed
  • How to Manage Documents on an Account — the document vault, which is only meaningful for mortgage customers

Tidying up

  • How to Merge Duplicate Accounts — when the same customer got entered twice. This needs a specific permission.
  • How to Delete an Account — which deactivates rather than destroys, so nothing attached to it is lost.

Connecting a lead to an account

From the lead's side, not the account's. The account's Leads tab has an "Associate Lead" button that doesn't do anything yet. How to Link a Lead to an Account is the real route.
