How to Connect Govee
Control Govee lights and plugs, and read humidity and CO₂ sensors, through the Govee developer API.
Before you start
You need the Manage IoT Connections right. Requesting a new Govee key switches off every older key on the account. If another app already uses your key, give this connection that same key instead of requesting a new one.
Connect it
- In the Govee Home app, open Profile → Settings → Apply for API Key. The key arrives by email.
- Go to Settings → Devices (IoT) → Connections and choose Add connection.
- In Add a connection, choose Govee (under Smart home).
- In Name this connection, enter the name people will see.
- Paste the key into Govee API key.
- Choose Test and link, then Done.
Result
Your devices appear after the first sync. Each device is checked once a minute. Some values are not shown: thermometer readings and heater targets (Govee does not document their units), presence (Govee sends it only over its own messaging channel) and purifier or fan speeds (Govee names them as modes, not percentages).
If it doesn't work
- The credentials were rejected. A newer key may have replaced yours. If the connection says Needs a new sign-in, choose Sign in again and paste the current key. See How to Relink a Connection.
- The vendor asked for fewer requests: wait a few minutes; the connection recovers by itself.
- See Fixing a Connection Problem.
