How to Connect Geotab
Follow Geotab vehicles through the MyGeotab API. The connection reads fleets; it does not control vehicles.
Before you start
You need the Manage IoT Connections right and a MyGeotab administrator.
In MyGeotab
Create a user whose authentication type is Service Account, with View only clearance and access to the company group.
Connect it
- Go to Settings → Devices (IoT) → Connections and choose Add connection.
- In Add a connection, choose Geotab (under Vehicles).
- In Name this connection, enter the name people will see.
- Leave Server as
my.geotab.comunless Geotab gave you another server. - Enter your Database, the Service account user and its Password.
- Choose Test and link, then Done.
Result
Your vehicles appear after the first sync with their position, speed and odometer, and trips and position history are available. Positions are checked every minute. Engine state is not shown: Geotab reports whether a vehicle is driving, not its engine state.
If it doesn't work
- The credentials were rejected. Check the database, user and password. Geotab locks a user after five failed logins, so a refused login is not retried by itself.
- The connection later says Needs a new sign-in: the service account's password was probably changed. Choose Sign in again. The form opens with your Server, Database and Service account user filled in. Enter the new Password and choose Test and link. See How to Relink a Connection.
- The connection says the account does not grant the permissions it needs: check the user's clearance and group access in MyGeotab.
- See Fixing a Connection Problem.
