How to Assign a Role to a Member
Note: this doesn't happen from Security Roles, Departments, or Job Titles — role assignment to an actual person is done on that person's own member settings page.
Give a specific team member one or more roles, and optionally override individual rights just for them.
Before you start
The Configure System right.
Steps
- Open the member's own settings page, then go to the Roles & Permissions tab.
- Check one or more roles for this member — a member can hold multiple roles at once.
- Optionally set a member-specific session timeout, overriding whatever their role(s)/department/job title would otherwise resolve to.
- Optionally add direct right overrides on this member, using the same Granted / Not Specified / Nuke tree used everywhere else in this section.
- For any given right, the page shows its origin — which level (Security Model, Role, Department, Job Title, or this member) actually set the effective value, so you can see why a member does or doesn't have something.
- Save.
What you'll see
Member-level overrides are the most specific level in the waterfall — they win over anything set by role, department, or job title. See Security Roles Explained for the full precedence order.
