How to Set Up a Camera Site
A site is one location with cameras — an office, a shop, a warehouse — connected through one computer running the connector. You need the Manage Camera Sites permission.
Before you start
Pick a computer at the location that:
- stays switched on, and doesn't go to sleep;
- is on the same network as the cameras;
- runs Windows, macOS or Linux, on an Intel/AMD or ARM processor.
It doesn't need to be powerful, and nothing about your firewall or router needs to change: the connector only ever connects out.
Connect the site
- Go to Settings → Cameras → Site Setup and click Enroll site.
- Download the connector. The button offers the right version for the computer you are using; if the cameras' computer is a different kind, pick it under Other computers. Copy the download to that computer and unpack it.
- Install it. In the unpacked folder, run
kamocameraclient install— as an administrator on Windows, or withsudoon macOS and Linux. The connector starts at once and every time the computer starts. - Read the code. On that computer, open http://127.0.0.1:47180 in a browser, or run
kamocameraclient code. It shows eight letters and numbers, such asKQ7M-3XPA. - Enter the code in the Enroll dialog, give the site a name (for example "Main office") and click Enroll site.
Within a few seconds the site's card shows it as connected. Now add its cameras: see How to Add Cameras and Recorders.
A code is good for fifteen minutes, and the connector shows a fresh one by itself when it expires. Codes never contain O, 0, I, 1 or L, so there's nothing to confuse.
If your organization signs in at its own web address, install with kamocameraclient install --server https://api.your-domain instead. Most organizations don't need to.
Rename or remove a site
From the site's card, or its Overview tab, you can rename it, see which computer and versions it runs, and Unenroll it.
Unenrolling disconnects the site at once: its cameras stop for everyone, and they disappear from every list. The computer discards its key and shows a new code, so you can enroll it again — into the same organization or another — without reinstalling anything. To remove the connector from the computer entirely, run kamocameraclient uninstall.
Good to know
- The connector keeps its settings in
%ProgramData%\KamoCameraClienton Windows,/Library/Application Support/KamoCameraClienton macOS and/var/lib/kamocameraclienton Linux. Its log isconnector.logthere. - Windows and macOS may warn the first time the connector runs, because it is not yet signed by a code-signing certificate. Choose to run it anyway.
